Operation
The Hydro Quip Inclined Plate Separators are designed and manufactured to provide for the precipitation and removal of suspended material in water. The IPS employs the use of a series of plates inclined at an angle of 55°. This specialized design allows the IPS to perform all of the functions of a conventional solids contact clarifier at a fraction of the space and cost.
Inlet Compartment
The inlet compartment of the IPS receives the raw water from the process. After entering through the non-clogging inlet nozzle the water is dispersed evenly throughout the chamber.Separation Chamber
The raw water from the Inlet Chamber passes down under the plate pack skirt and moves upwards towards the polypropylene plate pack. As the water moves upwards the suspended particles have their upwards velocity interrupted by the inclined plates. These particles drop down and slide down the inclined plate and join larger previously settled particles in the sludge hopper.Stabilized polypropylene plate packs are easily installed and removed.
Sludge Chamber
The sludge chamber or sludge hopper collects the sludge as it thickens. An intermittent clean water backflush maintains the thickened sludge in a fluid state so it is easily removed by pumping. The sludge hopper collects the sludge as it thickens. An intermittent clean water backflush maintains the thickened sludge in a fluid state so it is easily removed by pumping. The sludge hopper is sloped at a 60° to avoid bridging.Clean Water Chamber
The clarified water exits the top of the plate pack free of its suspended solids and "overflows" its effluent weir. From this point the clarified effluent flows by gravity and exits the unit through the effluent nozzle.Optional Equipment / Features
