Why are Hydro Quip's Oil Water Separators revolutionary? The reason is that no other oil water separator exists that possesses all of the following traits:

OverviewOil and water separators are designed to remove all free and dispersed non-emulsified oil and some settleable solids from waste streams. If emulsified or dissolved oils are present in the waste water additional downstream may be required. The principal function of the oil / water separator is to remove gross quantities of free oil before further treatment. In this capacity, the oil / water separator protects more sensitive downstream treatment processes from excessive amounts of oil.
There are a few applications where oil and water separators are the only end-of-pipe treatment provided to obtain effluent requirements. One example is in the petroleum industry, where the only effluent restrictions specified are for oil or suspended solids. In these cases, the wastewater in question consistently contains sufficiently low amounts of emulsified and and dissolved oils to meet effluent requirements after the free oil is removed.
Another example is a stream which is discharged to a publicly owned treatment works (POTW). The oil and water separator is used to ensure compliance with requirements for pretreatment of oil and grease.
It should be stressed that whenever an oil and water separator is considered for an application where it must stand alone, the amount of emulsified and dissolved oils in the wastewater stream must be properly quantified. The designer must also determine if any heavy metals are present in the wastewater. If any of these conditions are present in the wastewater stream they will not be removed by the oil / water separator and will effect the effluent test results.
It should also be noted that an oil and water separator must have sufficient space for storage of some settleable solids. The same process which causes the oil to rise and separate will cause solids to fall.
